The short version
- We never sell your data, and Notch has no ads.
- Bank connections are read-only: Notch can see balances and transactions, but can never move money.
- We use your information to run Notch for you, and for nothing else.
- You can download your data or delete your account at any time from Settings.
Who we are
Notch is a personal finance app operated by Notch Money, Inc. ("Notch," "we," "us"). This policy explains what information we collect when you use our website at notchmoney.io and the Notch apps, how we use it, and the choices you have.
Information we collect
Information you give us. Your name, email address, password (stored only as a secure, one-way hash), and anything you add in Notch, such as budgets, goals, notes, tags, properties, manual accounts, and answers to planning questions.
Financial information, with your permission. When you connect an account, our partner Plaid securely provides us with account names, balances, transactions, investment holdings, and loan details (such as rates and payment amounts). We never see or store your bank login credentials.
Documents you upload. If you upload a loan statement or similar document to fill in details, it is processed to extract the numbers and is not kept after processing.
Sign-in with Google or Apple. If you choose to, we receive your name and email address from that provider to create or sign in to your account.
Technical information. Like most websites, our servers record basic information such as your browser type, device type, approximate location derived from your IP address, and the date and time of requests. We use this to keep your account secure (for example, to show where a password reset was requested) and to keep Notch running.
How we use your information
- To provide Notch: syncing accounts, organizing transactions, showing budgets, investments, real estate, plans and reports.
- To keep your account secure, prevent fraud and abuse, and troubleshoot problems.
- To send messages you need, such as password resets, partner invitations, billing receipts and trial reminders, and notifications you turn on.
- To answer your questions and improve Notch, using information about how the app is used.
We do not sell your personal information, share it for advertising, or use it to market other companies' financial products to you.
AI features
Some features, such as Ask Notch, automatic categorization, and reading uploaded loan documents, use an artificial intelligence service provider to generate answers. When you use them, we send only the information needed for that request (for example, a summary of your balances and spending, or merchant names to categorize). Our provider processes it to return a result and does not use it to train its models.
Who we share information with
We share information only with service providers who help us run Notch, and only as needed to do so:
- Plaid, to connect your financial accounts (see Plaid's End User Privacy Policy).
- Cloudflare, which hosts our website, apps and data.
- Stripe, which processes subscription payments. We never see your full card number.
- Resend, which delivers our emails.
- An AI service provider, for the AI features described above.
- Market data providers, to show prices for investments. We only send ticker symbols, never personal information.
Your household. If you invite a partner to your household, they can see the accounts and information you choose to share with them, under the sharing settings in Settings → Household.
Legal reasons. We may disclose information if required by law, to protect the rights and safety of our users or Notch, or as part of a merger or sale of our business, in which case this policy would continue to apply to your information.
How we protect your information
Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Passwords are stored as one-way hashes, bank connections are read-only, and access to production systems is limited. No system is perfectly secure, but we work hard to protect your information and will notify you if a breach affects you, as required by law.
Your choices and rights
- Access and download: Settings → Your data & privacy → Download my data.
- Correct: edit your profile, accounts and transactions in the app.
- Disconnect: remove a bank connection at any time in Settings → Linked accounts.
- Delete: Settings → Your data & privacy → Delete account permanently erases your Notch data, disconnects your banks, and cancels any subscription.
- Emails: manage notifications in Settings → Notifications. Security and billing messages can't be turned off while you have an account.
Depending on where you live (for example, California), you may have additional rights to know, access, correct or delete your information. Email hello@notchmoney.io to make a request; we won't discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
How long we keep information
We keep your information while you have an account. When you delete your account, we erase your Notch data promptly, except for limited records we must keep for legal, tax or security reasons (such as billing records), which are deleted when no longer required.
Children
Notch is for adults 18 and older and is not directed to children. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
Where we operate
Notch is offered in the United States, and your information is stored and processed in the United States.
Changes to this policy
If we make meaningful changes, we'll update the date at the top and let you know by email or in the app before they take effect.
